Centos5: Open Source Server solution for all of your East Anglian Computer,Network or Internet requirements

We have just finished migrating a local Thetford based business over from a poorly configured peer to peer Windows network (using a Vista Home edition pc as the ‘Server’ ) to a new HP115 G5 Centos 5.4 Server.  The new server features Raid1 mirrored drives for high reliability, Samba SMB windows complaint network shares for security, and has taken over all the DHCP, DNS and Proxy services from cheap netgear routers.

Open Source Linux servers are easily overlooked by IT Consultants as many do not have the expertise or experiance to install and support them, plus the fact that as the Operating System is Free, they don’t get to make an money on it – which is a real shame as Linux servers account for over 70% of the servers that make up the internet .  This blog is running on a Linux server right now!
